Summary Reader Response Draft #4

The article “How green steel made with electricity could clean up a dirty industry,” written by Crownhart (2022), introduces green steel, the production of steel without fossil fuels.    As steel is used everywhere, it is expected to have a high demand. This, in turn, would result in a higher production rate to meet the demand. In the article, Crownhart (2022) reports that the steel industry produces nearly 2 billion tonnes of steel annually. As a result of such high production rates, steelmaking contributes to about two tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions for every tonne of steel produced, adding up to about 10% of such emissions globally. With the steel industry expected to grow by about 30% by 2050, the steel industry has pledged to reach “net-zero emissions” (Crownhart, 2022). To fulfil this, steel manufacturers need to find a cleaner way to produce steel, thus the invention of steel’s new competition, green steel. Green steel has a chance to become a more sustainable a...

Critical Reflection

In my introductory letter, I mentioned the two goals I wished to achieve for this module were improving my confidence and delivery during my presentation. I am proud to say that I achieved these goals in 13 weeks. Through the various opportunities given to us in class to present, be it elevation pitches, mock presentations, or even standing up to read from the screen, I was able to gradually improve my confidence and delivery. Eventually, I was able to feel comfortable with public speaking. This was apparent to me during the oral presentation, where my team and I had to present our proposed design solution, ParkingGoWhere. Compared to my previous presentations, where I stuttered and rushed through my slides, I found myself going at a comfortable pace with little to no stuttering. As such, I believe that I was able to deliver an impactful presentation along with my teammates.  In addition to honing my presentation skills, I was able to work on my critical thinking skills. Adopting t...
